My Background Information

Welcome! I’ve been a private math and writing tutor in New York City for over twenty years, working with middle school and high school students from various private schools throughout Manhattan and Riverdale (Brearley, Collegiate, Columbia Prep, Dalton, Horace Mann, Spence, Trinity, etc.). Additionally I tutor college students throughout the country via FaceTime, Zoom, and phone sessions.

(For a complete list of schools I’ve worked with, please see the “Schools” tab in the menu above.)

Born and raised in NYC, I attended Stuyvesant High School, and then Princeton University for my undergraduate degree, and Johns Hopkins University for my masters.  While continuing to tutor in New York, I also spent three years teaching undergraduates at Johns Hopkins; in 2011 I returned to New York full time.

Currently I tutor math at all levels, from third grade through college calculus.  I also tutor students for the math sections on the SAT, ACT, GRE and GMAT, and I have worked extensively with students preparing to take the AP tests (Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, and the newest AP, Precalculus). For the official College Board AP Calculus tests (AB and BC), I have taught students these topics in intensive independent study settings as well.

I also currently work with students on college application essays (as an advisor, reader and editor), and I am available for editing and other individualized writing help for other classes. (I take very few students right now for only English and writing tutoring, but I am available to discuss all options.)

In my longstanding commitment to learning and teaching, reading and education, I also have been a teacher’s aide in Appalachia, and I started an adult literacy program in Manhattan’s East Village.

If you’d like to contact me, please feel free to email me at lindasgottlieb@yahoo.com. Please put the word “tutoring” somewhere in the subject.
